Have It Your Way!

In 1974 Burger King came up with the jingle "Have it your way!"
Hold the pickles
Hold the lettuce
Special orders don't upset us
All we ask is that you let us
Serve you your way
Your way
Have it your way
Have your way at Burger King.
Nowadays that jingle applies to everything!
Hold the logic.
Hold the knowledge.
Special orders always upset me.
All I ask is that you let me
Be served my way
My way
Have it my way
Have it my way always!
God said this about that:
Mark 12:31b "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."
The teaching here is that since we love ourselves, then we're to love others that much. People, rather than focusing on the others, dwell on loving themselves. They took the part about loving themselves seriously in contrast to neglecting the thoughts, actions and feelings of others!
Ephesians 5:29a "For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it..."
Loving ourselves is a given; a God given attribute which all men have. We are called to love others with that same passion, but "lovers of self" love the self so much that their is little love left for others! Some take a great gift of God and change it into a curse. For those multitudes of people "It's all about me!" Look at the jingle (the second one); many people behave that way!

They not only nourish and cherish themselves, but they adore themselves also!  People care little about imposing on others just so they can have it their way!

Who do many think of when they think on this? Others! That's a characteristic of people who must "have it my way"! It's never "me" who's at fault. This type of person enjoys a world where lions purr and bears cuddle. They blame everything on the predator bunny-rabbit who looks at them the wrong way.

We all know self-centered people. We try to avoid them because giving it to them "their way" interferes with "the right way". People choose to be around fair-minded, charitable, thoughtful and loving people. People who must have it their way hardly fits those positive attributes. On the contrary they are demanding, inconsiderate, boasters, prideful and unloving (except for themselves).

I had a boss who was that way. The world centered on him! We all had to stoop to his "master of all" self-image and patronize him, but in our hearts we despised his inconsiderate and demanding  behavior! When he failed to get his way he threw a tantrum. Most of the time people bent to his wishes, but if one failed to serve him, hell was the reward.

Rather than living with a devil of a boss I took a promotion to the hell city of Detroit. He was that bad! One year later he pushed too hard. His estranged wife, claiming that she thought it was a burglar, shot him dead! That's how much people loathe people whose focus is on the self and "having it my way"! .
