Entangling Alliances

Why are there continuous war and world wars? It's because of "entangling alliances". In George Washington's Farewell Address to the nation he said " "It is our true policy to steer clear of permanent alliance with any portion of the foreign world." and Thomas Jefferson who said in his Inaugural Address "Peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations-entangling alliances with none." Where do you suppose President's Washington and Jefferson got this "crazy" idea which confounds the modern notion of the United Nations? Aren't we to have peace on earth? How can that be without country's allying themselves against global bullies? Let's take a look?

Messrs. Washington and Jefferson got this "crazy" idea of avoiding entangling alliances from The Bible; from Holy Scripture. While God encouraged commerce between nations and fairness to friends and enemies alike, God always taught that trust must be in him and not the power of consolidation. Many times in battle the Hebrew people were limited by God in the size of their army, and returned home victors!

There is much scripture, but here is one:
Isaiah 31:1 "Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the Lord!"
A great example of entangling alliances are from The Book of Isaiah Chapters 36 and 37 where the King of Assyria tries to bully King Hezekiah of Judah into an alliance. Rather than stoop to such tirades Hezekiah put his faith in the Lord.
Isaiah 36:18 "Of a truth, Lord, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the nations, and their countries, 19 And have cast their gods into the fire: for they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone: therefore they have destroyed them. 20 Now therefore, O Lord our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the Lord, even thou only."
Hezekiah did not go to Egypt for help against the Assyrians neither did he ally Judah with Assyria. He put his trust in the Lord!  There are two reasons alliances are discouraged: 1) Lack of trust in God Almighty and 2) expose righteous nations to the influences of pagan nations. Here we see that God warns against joining Judah with paganism in Assyria. Likewise, God warned the Hebrew people not to marry foreign wives and even they were commanded to divorce them because of pagan influences. With alliances comes intermarriage with pagan people and the worship of foreign gods!

Continental Europe and Great Britain always had entangling alliances. Throughout time when one nation warred with another, many others by  alliances, joined in. They were obligated to defend their contractual obligations with friendly nations against the power of others, and if a powerful nation waged war, it's allies were obligated to fight with them. Most often only neutral nations such as Belgium remained war-free!

Both great World Wars were because of entanglements. In World War I petty alliances caused the world to be engulfed in war. It started with insignificant events. Although Kaiser Wilhelm had political intrigues, the war was set off when an independent acting  Serbian, by accident, had a chance to assassinate Archduke Ferdinand of Austria and his wife. Serbia relented and offered terms of peace which were remarkable in piety, but the Kaiser saw the opportunity to gain land and power. War started, and with nearly every country in Europe pledged to one side or the other, World War I started. Later on the United States and remote nations were drawn into the conflict until the entire world was at war.

World War II wasn't much different! Just replace the name Kaiser Wilhelm with Adolph Hitler. Much of the alliances remained the same and later, nations joined the fray for humanitarian and alliance reasons.

In modern times the United Nations is an alliance of nations. All nations entangle themselves to avoid war, but war ensues anyway! Sometimes the war is fought by political means, but eventually negotiation gives way to bullying and those in alliances become part of the problem. NATO always drags European nations into wars that they may otherwise be able to avoid. The same goes for eastern alliances.

As of 2012 the Doomsday Clock, how near we are to the end of the world, is set at five minutes until midnight. It's a dangerous world in which we live and if one nation goes to war, most nations can be obligated to join in!

Alliances are not of God. Indeed God foresaw the day when kings would turn their backs on him and become engaged in entangling alliances. With those come mass immigration and the poisoning of our Christian nation with the paganism's from the east. Although it's a great opportunity to proselytize the heathen, progressives have propagated the notion that the Great Commission is intolerant and America follows the progressives in the same way German Christians were in lock step with Hitler!

What is it that we should do as a nation? Avoid entangling alliances, reduce the influx of those from pagan nations and let God run our country!
2 Corinthians 6:14 "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?"
The world will end in war! The Battle of Armageddon will be the mother of all wars and blood will flow as deep as the horse reigns. Entangling alliances will pit most nations against Israel. However, the forces of God win that war!  Christ will defeat the forces of the antichrist! It's not the alliance which wins, but the power of God! We need to quit depending on false peace negotiations and return to God! Hezekiah depended on God and so must we.
