It’s amusing how young peoples’ eyes glaze over or they chuckle when there is a discussion of the cold war, communism, socialism, and the potential instability in the world. These individuals don’t remember the cold war. They don’t remember “mutually assured destruction.” They have no concept of the anxiety that was felt on both sides of the globe for decades.
Their concept of communism is a cute T-shirt with a picture of Lenin, Mao, or Che Guevara. They know few details about United States’ history and civics, so they certainly don’t know about the hundreds of millions of people who died at the hands of of Communist dictators in the Twentieth Century.
Despite the post-partisan, postbellum, post-racial, smart diplomacy, we’ll-just-all-get-along, ocean abating transformation Obama’s ascendance was supposed to initiate, the world is more unstable than ever, and the cute Obama T-shirt is losing its losing its luster.
Instead of springing forth from the head of Zeus, fully armored, Obama sprang for from the depths of Chicago, glamored by Valerie Jarrett and wielding a silver tongue.
His further flexibility after the 2012 election has enabled Vladimir Putin’s bellicose nostalgia for the politics and territory of the old Sovetsky Soyuz.
With Obama’s apologetic approach to the muslim world, he has become the butt of jokes worldwide and certainly in the muslim world. There are more dangers from radical islamists now than ever before.
Obama beguiled America and weakened her apparent resolve and military strength. That and our enormous indebtedness has emboldened China to a new expansionist appetite.
Our young heirs better realize that the US has substantial enemies that would destroy the blissful life to which they are accustomed. Their freedom is vulnerable and has to be vigorously defended. These are not peaceful times!
