Atheism and the Celebrities

Today's commentary is on Romans 3. It is about works and faith. However, there is scripture quoted (Romans 3:10-18) which is preceded by "it is written". One should always ask "Where is it written?" A quick search of scripture shows that it is written in Psalms 14 and 53.  We'll look at Psalm 53:
Psalm 53:1 "The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.”  They are corrupt, doing abominable iniquity; there is none who does good. 2 God looks down from heaven on the children of man to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God. 3 They have all fallen away; together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one."
Who says "There is no God?" It's atheists who say that. God warns us not to have other gods besides him. Well, atheists, it seems, are not in disobedience to that command! Or are they?  Yes they are! In declaring their lack of belief in God they are declaring their own superior wisdom over God. As the serpent said "You will be like God, knowing good and evil (Genesis 3:4).  Those in disobedience throughout scripture always did "what was right in their own eyes". In essence atheists have gods and they are them!

When questioned about their belief, many "stars" declared their atheism. Morgan Freeman said about that question "I am God!" He made my point and in his own eyes his knowledge is superior to God's word. An "atheist" has a belief just like all religions do! Their belief is that God does not exist! They worship the "self".

A notable atheist was W.C. Fields. He was a funny man, but I'm sure he's not so funny now. He was an atheist. According to the justice of God, he's not moldering in the grave, but a part of him is languishing in hell. Because one doesn't believe in God does not excuse the unbeliever from eternal damnation!

It is said that when W.C. Fields was dying, a friend came to visit and found Fields thumbing through a Bible. When the friend remarked "I thought you were an atheist!" Fields replied "I'm looking for loopholes." Mr. Fields. There are no loopholes! I'm sure you realize that now! When you said "Christmas at my house is always at least six or seven times more pleasant than anywhere else. We start drinking early. And while everyone else is seeing only one Santa Claus, we'll be seeing six or seven," that's irreverent of God! On the judgment seat God will remind you of your own words and as such you shall convict yourself. You see, being born-again is when you come to realize that only Jesus can save your own little god. You never saw that light!

Let's look at what some "stars" said about their own atheism:

Daniel Radcliffe: "I'm an atheist, but I'm very relaxed about it..."
Emma Thompson: "I'm an atheist; I suppose you can call me a sort of libertarian anarchist. I regard religion with fear and suspicion. It's not enough to say that I don't believe in God. I actually regard the system as distressing: I am offended by some of the things said in the Bible and the Koran, and I refute them."
Penn Jillette: "If every trace of any single religion were wiped out and nothing were passed on, it would never be created exactly that way again. There might be some other nonsense in its place, but not that exact nonsense."
Jodie Foster: Though she's an atheist, she says, "I absolutely love religions and the rituals. Even though I don't believe in God, we celebrate pretty much every religion in our family with the kids."
Kathy Griffin: She calls herself a "militant atheist," and she said while accepting her Emmy, "A lot of people come up here and they thank Jesus for this award. I want you to know that no one had less to do with this award than Jesus. He didn't help me a bit. ... So all I can say is suck it, Jesus. This award is my god now." You get the idea. These celebrities are narcissists!  They are in love with themselves! If you think these folks are hell-bound, consider your own self-importance! You may not be an atheist, but if you're not born-again, you have another god besides god and he (or she) is you!

Some believe in God, but think it's good deeds which bestow righteousness. Katherine Hepburn was an atheist who believed in kindness. I'm sure she was a kind person, but now she is a suffering kind person who hates those who deceived her! She's right there with W.C. Fields blaming and hating that funny funny man because hell is about hate, isolation and pain!

Kindness doesn't buy salvation. The unbeliever's attempt at "goodness" is as filthy rags to God. He told Isaiah that! Being good never achieves heaven, and is an obstacle to salvation. Those who sin the most tend to love God the most! (Luke 7:47). However, doing many and great sins is not the answer to increase love. Paul talks about that in Romans 3.

No atheist celebrity does good... not even one! None of any of us does good... not even one! What we think is good is a mere deception by Satan. An atheist is truly a theist as we are. We merely follow a different deity! Atheists are their own god, but one without power. The power of an atheist comes from Satan. It's limited power, but their father is the devil:
John 8:44 "You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires."
It's not goodness those stars do. It's evil! Kathy Griffin admits she is evil by her own  claim. Her award is her god now. She says that, but that idol is only the way Hollywood appeases her god. Just like Morgan Freeman, Kathy is her own god!  She will be toppled as all false gods are!

By watching entertainment by these "stars" we are not only reinforcing them with our money, their first love, but are showing respect for their god. I cannot obey God and show love to him, by sitting in front of a television or movie screen and pay homage to their rebellion. If I did, I would be enabling them. What they need is desperation and ticket buyers ensure that they never become desperate to know God! By laughing at or enjoying communion with these stars, we are respecting other gods! For the Christian, that's just not right!

Christians need to respect God. Not only should we avoid these performers, but we should be discerning in what we put into our system. Entertainment is insidious and persuasive. Too much Kathy Griffin may change your own heart because your heart becomes hardened to her sinning! As Christians we are new persons. New people do not watch things the old person watched. Do you still do that? Then perhaps you need to change and when I do that, I need to change!  These actors are fools! Don't be a fool with them!
