The Deep State

     The term "Deep State" is in vogue at the present time. It is  "shadow government" which attempts to undermine those in power and to keep certain groups from gaining power. Is it real? That is for your own determination. Regardless of the rebuttal, I can see the deep state. There is now and always have been one in existence.
     Government means order. Even non-Christian nations have rules of order. They have government laws which protect society's institutions and people. Even Sadam Hussein's Iraqi government, in his eyes, although cruel, was the only way Muslims could be kept civil. Why did Hussein believe that cruelty was necessary to control his people? Because Sharia Law was always the shadow government, and truly were the movers and shakers of Iraq through Sharia Law. The same holds true, as it happened, to the Peacock Throne in Iran. The Islamic State was the shadow government there until they took control by revolution.
     When England ruled the American colonies, the shadow government were those who fought injustice. I'm glad Americans revolted. It provided much freedom from abuse in civil matters. From our perspective, the deep state existing in the colonies at that time was good. Englishmen may see it differently! My point is that shadow governments can be good or evil. The Judeans in the time of Jesus had their own deep state - the resistance movement against the Roman government. Jesus never came to help that initiative, and the deep state at that time actually contributed to Jesus's death!

Mat 27:22 Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified... 25 Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children. 26 Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.

     Who was Barabbas who was so deserving of death but was freed so that Jesus could die? Ironically, the name "Barabbas", means "son of the father". In other words Barabbas was the anti-type of Jesus who was the true son of the Father! Some ancient manuscripts have his full name: Jesus Barabbas, thus validating the anti-type as "Jesus - the son of the father".
     The government of Judea was Roman. They had been conquered. Jesus himself accepted Roman rule, and its oppression. Never did Jesus speak out against the legitimate government of Caesar nor his stooge Herod! On the other hand Jesus was a supporter of order:

Mark 12:13 And they send unto him certain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, to catch him in his words. 14 And when they were come, they say unto him, Master, we know that thou art true, and carest for no man: for thou regardest not the person of men, but teachest the way of God in truth: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not? 15 Shall we give, or shall we not give? But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said unto them, Why tempt ye me? bring me a penny, that I may see it. 16 And they brought it. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? And they said unto him, Caesar's. 17 And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's. And they marvelled at him.

     The way colonialism worked in ancient days is that the conqueror allowed the conquered to maintain religious and civil laws but added unto the conquered their laws. As long as they didn't conflict, the conquering nation was satisfied. However, the conquered were taxed, and this indeed was taxation without representation! The taxation was paying "tribute" to the conqueror for the cost of ruling the nation and to make the conquered part of the nation. It is to be noted that the American Colonies were not a conquered nation but "we the people". They paid tribute just as if they were conquered!
     In the passages above, the shadow government - legalists and monarchists - attempted to incite Jesus. They desired to pin the label "zealot" on him. The zealots were a political  movement in Jerusalem - the Jewish "deep state" which had been in control and wished to regain control. Their method was to incite the Jewish people to rebel against the Roman government.
     The Jews were expecting a great king similar to the line of the Maccabees who fought the revolution against the Hellenists and won! They were expecting a liberator and the Pharisees knew that. They accused Jesus of being the liberator from the Romans. Jesus made it clear - he came to liberate but not from Caesar! Pilate figured that out,,, the Jews are still a little slow! Jesus was not part of the shadow government but was fully transparent. Because he knew that the nation needed order, he encouraged order.
     Now back to Jesus Barabbas:

Luke 23:18 And they cried out all at once, saying, Away with this man, and release unto us Barabbas: 19 (Who for a certain sedition made in the city, and for murder, was cast into prison.) 20 Pilate therefore, willing to release Jesus, spake again to them. 21 But they cried, saying, Crucify him, crucify him.

          Barabbas was the "deep state" which was against the civil government of Rome and who favored Herod. This "Jesus" was seditious: "the crime of saying, writing, or doing something that encourages people to disobey their government" (Merriam-Webster Dictionary). He was a zealot who plotted and killed to overthrow the legitimate government of Rome. In all likelihood, the Pharisees and the Herodians were the deep state. They wanted Jesus killed, as he was not one of them, but wanted Jesus Barabbas saved. They got their wish. Jesus Baryahweh  (Jesus - son of God) died and Jesus Barabbas lived. He represents all sinners and is the type of all people.
      Even the Jewish deep state was bad. The Temple was destroyed because of those zealots and Jerusalem utterly diminished to rubble. The Jewish people were scattered once again, not to gather there until 1948. My point is that good intentions may not create good! Those zealots diminished the Abrahamic Covenant - God's will for the Jews.
     Right now, America also has a deep state with a shadow government. It may not even be a conspiracy but the very nature of men. The Pharisees only did what they always did which was undermine Jesus. Conspiracies today do the same thing. By creating discord, unity is destroyed. Division is the method of Satan. In ancient times the Law of God was used s a tool to usurp the King - Jesus. They used God's law for their own selfish motives. In America today, zealots use the law (the Constitution) to their own advantage: using the First Amendment to prohibit speech and curtail Christianity. Christians are accused of zealotry just as the legalists accused Jesus of the same. Yogi Berra would say, "deja vu all over again"!
     Our nation needs order. That "swamp" which needs drained is the deep state. They are those in power who use their position, and twist the law to undermine order. As scripture says, "they do what is right in their own eyes:

Jud 17:6 In those days there was no king in Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes.

     Chaos is of Satan; order is of God. Jesus validated that with his position on Caesar. He could have overthrew the Romans in the twinkle of his eye but he needed them to spread his word. He indeed came to free mankind from Satan but not from Caesar! The Jews failed to realize that! They are still in bondage because they mistook the notion of freedom. They thought the deep state was the way to freedom while all the time it was by Jesus.
     Society, especially the media (the Herodians who want to keep the swamp intact), are the zealots. They will tear down the nation to preserve their status quo.  All the while they ignore the purpose of Jesus which is to preserve mankind forever. His desire is that mankind have unity:

Mark 6:8 And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh. 9 What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

     Of course Jesus was speaking of holy matrimony but he was referring to whatsoever.  This nation, like it or not, was founded on "natural law" which only comes from God. This nation is the "what" in the above command not to put asunder. The deep state is Barabbas, the Pharisees, and the Herodians of modern times. Only the Way of Jesus can save the nation, and they are those who the zealots for Satan (of which Herod the Great is a type) attack.
