THE CREEPING THINGS OF THE BIBLE: WHO MIGHT THEY BE?

Because I am traveling, this commentary has not been rechecked so forgive the grammatical errors.

The first sin was horrendous. It was not just one sin but choosing death over life. Life was glorious and Adam’s kind of what they were had no sin and no death. Time did not exist, beginning after sin (Gen 4:3). Time is measured by the decay of organisms and in the paradisical Garden there would have been no physical death, and thus no decay of organisms. In other words, glorious man was not organic.

The name Adam implies several things: the color red, the ground itself, the male man’s name, and the male’s kind. That the flesh of Adam was red clay comes from his name. Because man was very good (Gen 1:29) implies perfection. Hence, glorified is essentially the state of Adam before sin.

In science, "state" primarily refers to the state of matter (solid, liquid, gas, plasma, etc), describing physical forms based on particle arrangement and energy, but it also means the specific condition of a system defined by measurable properties. A substance's state (e.g., water as ice, liquid, or steam) changes with temperature and pressure, altering its physical appearance but not its chemical identity.

Add to the science a fifth state — Spirit. The man Adam was made of two states of matter: (1) his body and (2) his spirit. He also had another state: (3) mobility.  None of the other creatures were endowed with a spiritual state:

God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth. (Gen 1:26)

Forget the plurality in the creation of man: us, our, them; for it is not in the Hebrew. There was no us only Him.

The key word in that passage is “dominion” — a crumble. If God is the “Cookie,” then Adam is a crumble from the divine “Cookie.” Like cookies in computer technology, once God visited man, he left within man identification to remember all about Him for futurity. Computer cookies very well describe the word “dominion” in the making of Adam. The cookie left in Adam would have been a divine entanglement. Adam was meant to be the only kind remembered by God; so it was Adam’s kind that were elected over any of the other kinds.

Paul wrote the following about the dominance of mankind:

If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. (2 Cor 5:17)

“In Christ” is the “elect.” The elect are new creatures that have dominion in the sight of God. “Old Things” have passed away and with dominion, they become new creatures. Just who were the creatures of old? What are those old things? Old Things might very well be old creatures that are not in Christ — those who are not covenanted with the elect.  The point is that those in Christ are new creatures and they have dominion beyond old creatures who are not in Christ.

In Christ, is how Adam was certainly created; it was with the breath of God breathed unto vessels, perhaps of red clay (Gen 2:7). None of the other creatures — the creatures created before him — had life breathed unto them. They were “old creatures” and Adam the newer creatures.

Adam was the Holy Thing and the older creatures just things in a lower state of being. What was missing with the animal kingdom? Life. Indeed they were mobile and even with degrees of intelligence, but they were created dead because they had no souls.

The English word “die” in the Hebrew is mut; mem – vav – tav.

The letter mem represents dynamics as well as the flow of blood. The letter vav suggests both security and a future, and finally the letter tav represents completeness. Just what is missing that is not in “Adam”? The letter aleph. Aleph is from the breath of God. Death is with the Spirit of God gone; with the mem used to completion. Not only is mem blood but any dynamic. Death would be when any concept of God lacks in the being. Mem is even genetics.

Adam was a higher state of man like the angels who too were all once glorious, but now some say demons are essentially angels that are dead in the sight of God.

Mankind were created — two of them; male and female — in a higher state of being. Higher than what? Other states of creatures; and before Adam, God said, “Let the Earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the Earth after his kind: and it was so” (Gen 1:24).

Hence every living creature was beastly.

First mentioned is “living creature”: hay nepes. Hay therein (living) just means separated (from Adam) by God. Nepes (nun – pev – shin) is seed spoken and scattered. God spoke them into existence, but did not leave a crumb of Himself in them.

So, the “creatures” consisted of all other kinds without the glory of God within them. They moved about, but were dead, because they would have had no souls filled with the Spirit of God.

Now consider the “beasts”. That comes from the same word as “living” — hay. Hence, “beasts” are any creature without the Spirit of God in them, Hence, Satan, is “The Beast” because its spirit is evil.

Adam was therefore a higher state of being than the beasts because he had the Spirit of God within him and he breathed the same breath of life unto the woman, indubitably without sexual intercourse. That leaves the remainder of the beasts that are not dead but without the Spirit of God in them. Beasts are lower states of creatures without souls. Adam was the only kind made with a living soul.

That leaves for us to deal with the last kind of beasts — creeping things.

The first thought is that they were either stooped or crawling things. Perhaps some readers thought of serpents and such, and others, monkeys. “Monkey” in the Hebrew is characterized by the Hebrew letter qof. None of those kinds are include the letter qof, hence creeping things are not monkey or even monkey-like creatures.

Perhaps “creeping things” were just lower states of man-like creatures.  Perhaps “creeping” is a mistranslation and should be just a lower state of being.

Adam was a Holy Thing. A Holy Thing is qodes in the Hebrew: hey – qof – delet – shin. The qof does not mean “monkey” but just more than human. How so? The silent hey in the word; God breathed life in the thing to make it holy. Therefore, only Adam’s kind was a holy thing which was for in the future (dalet) would multiply (shin).

Creeping Things were not Holy Things and with that were not really “mankind” but a kind of beast, and like “The Beast,” Satan; without souls.

Creeping things were not qodes but remes; spelled resh – mem - shin.

Resh is characterized by the head and face of a man, as “man” is known now. Hence, remes are surely creatures that we now resemble. Resh also means “head” as in “first.” Indeed “creeping things” preceded Adam’s kind and resemble modern man.

The letter mem indicates that they were creatures with blood, unlike Adam’s kind were strictly creatures with God in them. The last letter in remes is the shin, characterized by a set of teeth, they would have been creatures who ate and were destructive.

The letter resh is not in the name of Adam but it is in creeping things. That means the old creatures were flesh but the new creature, Adam, was some glorious substance not animal. The hidden letter in the name Adam is hey… the Breath of God without a sound.

Adam’s kind would not have eaten anything, even herbs. Sacred literature indicates that they had no digestive tracts. The “herbs” that nourished them, I have concluded from the literal meaning “Glossy”, was surely manna from heaven since it was like hoar frost on the ground that simply dissipated and not ever decay. [1] So, if you think there are perfect steaks in heaven, forget it for there is no death in Paradise, and neither in Hell. Hell is forever dying but never being consumed.

Adam was glorious man and the son of God. People often say things like, We are all children of God. That is quite arrogant! Our father is the Devil, and it is its will that we do (John 8:44). Furthermore, Cain is our ancestor, and he was of the Wicked One (1 John 3:12).

Therefore, humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord and it is Him that will lift you up (Jas 4:10), not up from the ground but from a fallen state.

After one generation, Adam’s kind had fallen to a lower state of man, then called ‘Is in the Hebrew (Gen 4:1; pronounced eesh).’Is means “extant,” or another manlike being other than Adam. ‘Is is spelled aleph – yod – shin; a leader (aleph), by works (yod), not by the grace of God, and vicious (shin) unlike peaceful Adam. Mankind had degenerated in one generation because of sin.

The question is with whom the woman had carnal knowledge? Lucifer (Satan) was a spirit that was incapable of coupling (Mat 22:30; Mark 12:25; Luke 20:35). However, Satan has been known to enter into people: Cain, Jubal/Genun, Judas, and perhaps Nero.

Who else existed there to enter into the woman? Adam watched (yada) and the woman thought she by herself had created a new man (Gen 4:1).

Now this thought made me cringe… Perhaps it was  one of the “creeping things.”

Creeping things were things not of God as the word “dominion” indicates, Rather than serpent-like things, they were likely a lower state of men. If that is true, then the “Serpent” was not a talking animal but a lower state of men who could speak:

On that day, as he (Adam) was leaving the Garden of Eden, he burned incense as a pleasing fragrance — frankincense, galbanum, stacte, and aromatic spices — in the early morning when the sun rose at the time when he covered his shame. On that day the mouths of all the animals, the cattle, the birds, everything that walks and everything that moves about were made incapable of speaking because all of them used to converse with one another in one language and one tongue. He dismissed from the Garden of Eden all the animate beings that were in the Garden of Eden. All animate beings were dispersed — each by its kind and each by its nature — into the places which had been created for them. (Jubilees 28:27-29)

That notion was reinforced by Flavious Josephus the Jewish historian:

…All the living creatures had one language at that time, the serpent, which then lived together with Adam and his wife, showed an envious disposition at his assumption of their living happily and in obedience to God’s commands. And thinking that if they disobeyed them, they would fall into misery, he persuaded the woman, out of a malicious intention, to taste of the Tree of Knowledge, telling them that in that tree was the Knowledge of Good and Evil; and that when they obtained it, they would lead a happy life, indeed a life not inferior to that of a God. (Josephus Antiquities of the Jews 1:40)

Therefore, the so called “Serpent” would not have been a viper at all but a “creeping thing” which on its belly (gahon) would go (Gen 3:14). Gahon: gimmel – chet – vav – nun should describe how the Serpent might exist. Gimmel is a footprint, chet a wall or barrier, vav a peg to connect, and the nun an upright seed of sperm as if ready to strike.

It seems the implication is that the “Serpent” would increase itself as a real thing (chet) by the production of sperm. If that is true, then the Serpent was not a snake at all but a creature that would reproduce itself without God.

Figure 1: An ancient Hebrew letter nun

The Serpent was a being that would reproduce via substance (nun) from its belly; specifically the pudenda that all womb producing animals have.  Who would have the sperm/seed? Not Adam for he reproduced spiritually (Gen 2:21).  I submit that the sperm came from a beast — the creeping thing.

The skulls that resemble humans, but are not human, are now found often from excavations and tombs. They are not men, men, but lower states of men. Perhaps they are the ‘Is (male) and “Issa (female) kinds of man of a lower state not imbued with the Spirit of God. I am speaking of Neanderthals, Denisovans, and other not quite human beings, but certainly not apes either.

That appalled me, albeit I knew that I was not a son of God by birth but by adoption who the Lord God lifted to a higher state (Jas 4:10). I was once an old creature, but thanks to the grace of God, I have been born again and am a new creature in Christ (2 Cor 5:17).

Like a wolf that has been tamed to a puppy, I once was feral but now I’m tamed. I was once locked genetically in a feral state but now I am tamed to a higher state.

As the saying now goes, “I am Charlie Kirk,” now “I am in Christ.” Why is to die to gain (Phil 1:23)? Because death is merely a change in states from a beast to an adopted son of God. “In Christ” is lifted to a higher state and fallen children raised not up, but made whole: “As many as touched Him (Jesus) were made whole” (Mark 6:56).

Sin removed the Spirit of God and lowered the state of original Adam’s kind to an ‘Issa kind. Born again (John 3:7) makes whole — literally “engendered from (God) above” (Strong 2006). The lower states of men are not from another womb like Eve but from the Breath of God. Eve surely created a lower state of man from a creeping thing. Jesus came to correct that sacrilege.

As usual, my thesis needs tested. Below is the test:

The invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse; because that, when they knew God, they glorified Him not as God, neither were thankful but became vain in their imaginations and their foolish heart was darkened, professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and four-footed beasts and creeping things.

Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves; who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed forever. (Rom 1:20-25)

The high light of that is the part, “They became fools, and changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and four-footed beasts and creeping things.”

The Image of God (selem; Gen 1:27) was a phantom image in Adam. The “heart” or most central part of Adam was like God. Like God, the soul (heart) of man is invisible. That was perhaps the Glory of God in Adam. His flesh was transparent (naked; Gen 2:25).

That image was traded for the image of the Beast (nahas in Hebrew): nun – chet – shin; a seeming destructive creature that reproduced by sperm. That image would have gotten into the creeping thing and had its way with the woman. In other words, our sexual reproduction and lusts were surely not from God but the beast/man who was just an animal with instincts to reproduce. Is that not humbling? That you are not a son of God unless born again, but Neanderthal in nature?

Now for one last look. Paul called the lower state of man, “creeping thing.”

The Holy Thing (Luke 1:35) is Jesus, born the son (or seed) of God. Who are the “creeping things” in the Greek language? First off, they are corruptible beings (Rom 1:23), meaning that they are foul and will suffer death by perishing just like any animal.

Paul’s version of “creeping thing” was herpeton; in Homeric Greek, “an animal of any sort;” and  “in biblical Greek opposed to quadrupeds and birds” (Thayer's Greek Lexicon).

Our progenitors, according to Paul, were from Adam but because of sin, degenerated into animals. We too, unless born again, are beasts (the behemoths) — the mute beings.

Recall now that because of sin, mankind lost their communication with God. Implied is that men became beasts and were mute, not to each other, but unable to commune with God because they were not part of God. In like manner, there is no commune between God and beasts nor the “lost” souls and God; to wit: “Now we know that God does not hear sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and does His will, him He hears” (John 9:31).

To be heard by God we must be in His will. The will of God is metricized in The Ten Prescriptions written on stone for perpetuity. So, unless you and God are entangled as one, then you are like a mute beast to God. Hence, you are no better than the creeping thing from which you came.

This commentary explains much; not about evolution and the survival of the fittest, but the degeneration of the fittest to a lower state of man. Loss is also the science of entropy — left to its self, things tend to lose energy… in this case virtue.

Science says that entropy is lost forever. God says that He overcomes the science and the loss can be restored by regeneration.
