That mankind in the Garden had no digestive system, according to the Books of Adam and Eve, is an interesting proposition. As the story goes from ancient times, an unknown writer finished the life of Adam and Eve from the time they were dismissed from the Garden Paradise until they died.
Because its date and author are unknown, those Books are called “pseudepigrapha” …but are they? They, as such, are not canon in that they are not accepted unto the body of knowledge as divinely inspired writings.
Because Adam and Eve, standing near a fig tree and used its leaves to make aprons (Gen 3:7), it is reasonable to assume that the forbidden fruit were figs.
As Adam and Eve had learned their lessons, thereafter they were afraid to eat figs because they had sensed death as they immediately became as the “old creature” upon consuming the fruit. As the story goes, God gave them a fig the size of a watermelon whose “shelf life” was without end. Because they had sinned, they carried the fig wherever they went but would not eat of it out of fear. Finally, the temptation was too great, they ate, and became sick. The reason given was because in their glorious state, they had no digestive system, and likely, I might add, no reproductive systems. Somehow God kept them alive in Paradise.
What was the Garden like? It was like Paradise in heaven.
Ancient writers, as I do myself, believe that the Garden Paradise was
transposed to another realm in much the same manner that Jesus was resurrected.
The biblical evidence of that is much, but three are the most profound: (1) The
Jordan River (Naral Ha Yarden) means “the river of the Garden, (2) the area
that includes Israel to this day still retains Edenic names — The Gulf of Aden,
the city of Aden, the City of Adam, and the tribe of Dan’s assigned land, Eden,
and (3) that Sodom and Gomorrah were part of the “Garden of the Lord” (Gen
13:10), to wit:
And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the Garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.
It was not “as the Garden of the Lord” in the Hebrew but literally the very Garden and so was Zoar in Egypt! Now, the Garden of Eden no longer exists, except possibly for one spot in the middle of the Garden — Zion — which is to include the Foundation Stone and the remnants of the Garden — the Mount of Olives wherein ancient olive trees as old, if not more so, as four-thousand years, still exist.
That the Garden is the same “Paradise” as in heaven is essential in the evidence for my premise that things in the Garden are as things in the heavenly Paradise because they are the same existence, only different in substances because they are different realms of the same place!
What is known about heavenly Paradise? It is real, only of different substances. John the Revelator provided even the size of the Great City of God.
Also known is that the Tree of Life stood in the “midst of
the Garden” (Gen 2:9) and it still stands to this day in the same place:
To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God. (Rev 2:7) and In the midst of the street of it (Paradise), and on either side of the river (the Jordan), was there the Tree of Life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. (Rev 22:2)
The twelve manner of fruits that were to be “eaten” were not traditional fruits at all, but the twelve favorable natures of the new creatures: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control, and three others listed only in the Latin Vulgate version (Gal 5:22-23). Those “fruits of the Spirit” would be by Divine Impulse, in other words, the Spirit of God would imbue them unto the Christian with no eating, chewing, nor digestion!
Back in the Garden, the fruits of those trees were for eating — they were “good or food” (Gen 2:9), literally “good for meat” (BLB 2021). It is thought that the trees were good for eating but the fruit of one was good for the flesh! As John saw it in his vision, indeed the Tree of Life alone was good for the flesh; no longer would it be corrupt flesh but “good flesh” as it will have the nature of God.
My hypothesis is that the two consumed the fruit of the forbidden
tree, but neither was it figs nor by eating, but by carnal knowledge. Why so?
They were endowed with evil natures:
19 …Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like… (Gal 5:19-21)
The point is made: there will be no eating in Paradise in heaven and there was no eating in the Garden Paradise. Neither will there be no consummation of the flesh in heaven: “They which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage (in heaven)” (Luke 20:35).
What was the original sin? Since Cain is of the Wicked One, the sin was coupling (marriage) in Paradise, as I conclude. In heaven, there is no need for the reproductive system, and in the Garden, neither was there a need for it because God “cloned” Himself in Adam, then Adam “cloned” himself to make Eve. They were both “images” of God who creates, not pro-create in a natural manner.
Isaiah foresaw a reconstruction of the Garden Paradise, to
wit:
For the Lord shall comfort Zion: he will comfort all her waste places; and he will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the Garden of the Lord; joy and gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving, and the voice of melody. (Isa 51:3)
“Zion” changes as parts of it is destroyed. Zion means “Israel” — and specifically in the middle of the Garden in Jerusalem. The “Zion” that Isaiah envisioned was more than a city but like Eden itself.
“Eden” is likely the “fertile crescent” extending from the Nile to the Euphrates — the Kingdom of David. Isaiah would see the Kingdom of David like the Garden of the Lord was at one time. It was not only a real Garden that existed, but some of its “fruits” were seen by Isaiah — “joy and gladness shall be found therein” and also “thanksgiving and melody” (faithfulness and self-control).
The “fertility” of the Garden was not the humus nor hard work but by Divine Impulse and the new natures of the creatures. The genetics in the Garden were not organic at all but Divine. Satan, whose number is the number of carbon, is the “organic impulse” with which all are conceived.
Isaiah was not visualizing Paradise in heaven but its future location in the Mideast where it was so long before, as Paradise (New Jerusalem) will come down to its foundation (Rev 21:2)— Old Jerusalem.
Thus, my conclusion agrees with the unknown writer’s description,
but I extend it to the reproductive system as well as the digestive. But am I
correct? Now consider the following passage:
And God said, “Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the Earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.” (Gen 1:29)
“Meat” therein is ‘acla in the Hebrew. The closest English definition is “devouring” (BLB 2021). The “herbs” are not necessarily for eating but devouring. Scripture reveals that “the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Pet 5:8). The meat in that passage may very well be the flesh of those who devour the “herbs.”
Perhaps God was not referring to substance but natures. Perhaps “for meat” is for the organisms’ impulses, as a choice to eat or not. It is not substance at all but the nature of the Devil that they could choose or not.
As for “herb” itself, it is eseb in the Hebrew. It strictly means “to glisten” (ibid). Any further attempt to translate is by extrapolation. Because grass glistens in the sun, the translators were surely thinking of grass, and expanded it to include all vegetation, thus “herbs.”
What else glistens? Consider things unseen that corresponds to the nature of mankind. The first thing that comes to mind are chromosomes — the vessels that contain the identity of the fleshes, and by that, it is meant their coded identity of God in them — their God-given substance, their DNA, which ironically has JHVG in its interstices.
It would not necessarily be herbs that would be their food but that they would be divinely endowed with a nature not requiring substance for food. Their ”manna” from God would be His Divine Impulses wherein grace would preserve them and not organic substances at all!
God would provide the “manna,” and like the Israelites much later, each one could either choose or not to choose to eat. (Remember from scripture that the manna glistened in the sun. In other words, the “herbs” of the Garden were surely God’s care from heaven.
At Sodom, the people chose flesh to consume, perhaps by the mouth. The homosexuals would endeavor to “eat the flesh” of humans, so to speak, and it rained “brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven” (Gen 19:24). As such, the Sodomites “ate” death because they had natures worse than even the beasts.
Instead of manna, it rained death when it rained brimstone, or sulfur. What is the main characteristic of sulfur? “Elemental sulfur is a bright yellow, crystalline solid at room temperature” (Wikipedia 2001-2022) but at high temperatures it is fire. In other words, it glistens and as such the chromosomes in the flesh would glisten as they expire. God did that, them given a choice of what they put into their fleshes.
Now, almost everyone will put anything in their fleshes; from inks, to drugs, to piercings, to genetic altering “vaccines” that change the contents of the chromosomes.
God was not a “microbiologist” but he was biographical in that He formed the bodies of mankind with His nature Divinely Impulsed unto His creatures.
“Born again” is that “Impulse” that is contained in God’s “Seed” which grows only in those in Christ — in those who wear the Spiritual “Garment of God” that Adam wore until his death.
Hence, it is not so much food that Adam and Eve consumed, if they ate at all, but the nature of the beast that became theirs. As such, Cain was the firstborn in iniquity and of the Devil. He had evil somehow impulsed in his genetic code and it remains in all his germline to this day.(picture credit: audible.com)
