Politics: Quest for Good Government - Dr. Tim Hulsey

Letter #7-July 20, 2014

It hurts increasingly to see our federal government costing a trillion dollars
of taxpayer money each year while agency after agency is found to be performing
their jobs poorly or illegally, yet asking for more money and personnel, paying
undeserved performance bonuses, abusing travel benefits and credit cards,
holding expensive ineffective conferences, and enjoying better retirement
benefits than most of us.

It turns out that it is virtually impossible to fire these government employees
because of their unions and Civil Service rules, even in the face of atrocious
dereliction of duty.

All this is egregious enough, but many are also waging war on the American
People. The IRS, Department of the Interior, the FBI, the Department of Justice
and their BATFE, among others. Perhaps this is the reason for so much
militarization even in agencies not dealing with criminals.

These same agents can lie to you with impunity, but if you lie to them, you're a
felon!

Now, the Centers for Disease Control has "unexpectedly" been found to have an
epidemic of apathy related to the security of specimens of deadly diseases.
Several instances of security lapses have been reported recently. These microbes
are some of the most deadly substances in existence, including anthrax and
Ebola.

These biological agents can be deadly by accident, but, if obtained by someone
with nefarious motives, could have more widespread devastating effects.

Anyone with common sense would stop paying for services from a dishonest, inept,
irresponsible, abusive, wasteful provider. Sadly, we can't fire the federal
government. We can't even force it to immediately stop wasting our tax dollars.

The partisanship of the career bureaucracy seems so entrenched that it may be
impossible to neutralize. They will feel emboldened for two more years, at
least.

Cutting off funding may be our only recourse.
