The Prescription for Eternal Healing

What does it take to please the Lord and to keep the Covenant of Prosperity with Him? By that I mean eternal "prosperity!"
But take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law, which Moses the servant of the Lord charged you, to love the Lord your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cleave unto him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul. So Joshua blessed them, and sent them away: and they went unto their tents. (Josh 22:5-6).
Let's list all that was prescribed from those passages:
  • Be diligent - steady, earnest, and motivated.
  • Heed - pay strict attention to. Hearkening is how to heed.
  • Do! That word is sacrilege to Calvinists, but there are things which must be done to be blessed by the Lord. Doing is making it happen. Doing is the action and blessings are the reactions. What must you Do to be saved? Trust Jesus for eternal life and He will DO the rest! It is still by grace alone because God enables trust by the gift of faith. All sinners need to do is be persuaded. The entire Bible is about persuasion. Heeding the Word of the Lord is persuasive, and diligence is stedfast belief.
  •  The "commandment" is one of the two things which must be done. I prefer the alternate translation which is "prescription" because that makes more sense in relationship to "healing." Jesus heals the nations. The commandments are prescriptions for that healing.
  • Better said than "the law" is God's Will. The Law is His Will! Even if breaking The Law is not damning, does it not make sense to still do God's Will? Thus, rather than The Law being coercive, it is a measure of willingness and at the same time gratitude for God's healing (salvation). It shows that people are not taking God's Name - Jesus - vainly.
  • The Law, in the Old Testament and the New, is "to love your God." That is not god as you understand him, but the God who generated and regenerated you.
  • And to "walk in His ways." Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6). God's people were crated in the image of God, and those re-created are to walk in His image. Jesus is God walking. The Way of Jesus is walking the walk that he walked. Jesus was innocent of all sins! That was the way Adam was created (very good; Gen 1:29). Walking like Jesus is a return to the innocence in which Adam was created.
  •  We are to cleave and serve God; to firmly adhere and be a servant to. That is what God meant by "dressing and keeping the Garden" which is serving and preserving! Those are also accurate transliterations from the Hebrew.
  • How to serve? "With all your heart and soul." Jesus called that "The Greatest Commandment" and specifically to "Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. (Mat 22:37) and to that Luke added "all thy strength." That's how you DO it! Loving is hard work, and you are expected to work the work of love 24/7. You cannot love only part time; it is a full-time obligation with great pay - eternal life. The wages of sometimes loving and sometimes not is eternal death!
Joshua blessed them (the tribes of the East bank in Jordan) and sent them on their way. What "way" was that? Walking like Jesus would walk! Joshua was symbolic of Jesus. That would have been Jesus's name if he had lived in Joshua's time. It's as if saying, "Jesus blessed them!" What does blessed mean? Enjoying the bliss of Heaven (Webster). Joshua was explaining the prescription for Heaven. That presription is written on stone and never expires. The way to be blessed with Heaven now is the same as then. Christians need to consider these passages as the prescription for eternal healing and residence in Heaven.
The tribes east of the Jordan thought Joshua was talking about the prosperity of the land, but what he said, was the prescription for the soul!
