Many theologians, as I do, believe that the original sin included things sexual (carnal knowledge) as well as doctrinal knowledge. Think on that; before the fall of mankind genitalia was for “good” - reproduction to be exact. Since the fall of mankind, the genitalia have been primarily for pleasure, and the “high places” where people worshiped in pagan lands represented phalluses and pubic mounds. The latter is the mons pubis or mons veneris (Venus) which is a major erogenous zone on females. The name Venus means “sexual desire.”
The Latin goddess Venus was derived from the Greek goddess Aphrodite, who in turn was influenced by the Phoenician goddess Astarte, from the Mesopotamian goddess Astarte, from the Sumerian goddess Inanna -the “Queen of Heaven” who was also called “Ishtar.” Androgynous (behaviors of both male and female genders) and hermaphroditic (sex organs of both genders) men were heavily involved in the cult of Inanna-Ishtar. Ishtar’s origins are unknown, but she is believed to be a product of syncretism – identities from various gods and goddesses (Wikipedia). In other words, Ishtar did not create anything as “gods” would do, but men created Ishtar from rudimentary gods and goddess. The Queen of Heaven is the construct from whom many other gods and goddesses were “manufactured” by different peoples.
Ishtar, the Sumerian goddess, was from the area of Nimrod’s cities. Nimrod is credited with the origin of many gods and goddesses in Sumer (the area of Uruk and Ur – the hometown of Abraham.) Nimrod is believed to be the god Ninurta – the male deity of Sumer and was the god of agriculture and healing. Of course, agriculture is associated with fertility as well.
The purpose of this background information is twofold: (1) to trace the genealogy of the gods and goddesses back to the earliest known history, and (2) to demonstrate that the gods and goddesses of antiquity were created by the societies in which they were worshipped. Without proof but with evidence, I contend that Adam and Eve were the first false “god” and “goddess” because the Serpent said, “Ye shall be as gods; knowing good and evil” (Gen 3:5). Nimrod (Ninurta) is known from history. He was the great-grandson of Noah. Because people were destroyed in the flood for having other gods, it can be assumed that mankind created gods before written history.
The most prominent gods and goddesses were those associated with fertility, and who were worshiped with sexual rituals. A good case is that the first sin was sexual in nature! Even that a virgin was chosen to be the surrogate for Jesus indicates that sexual purity is closely associated with “goodness.” That would indicate that sexual impurity was associated with evil.
Before they became “as gods,” Adam and Eve had only the knowledge of good. Surely reproduction was only for “good,” and that is for the two to replicate God’s handiwork.
Cain was not born in the Garden of Goodness, hence he was born in iniquity. While in the Garden, God commanded that they multiply. They did not. Cain was conceived and born outside the Garden (Gen 4:1). What was the first thing that Adam and Eve did once outside the goodness of the Garden? They conceived Adam in iniquity – outside of goodness. King David lamented that he was “shapen in iniquity” (Psalm 51:5). Why so? He was conceived when his parents pleasured with not only the knowledge of good, but evil as well. With the exception of Jesus, who was born of a virgin, all men have sinned because they are products of pleasure. Not that pleasuring for procreation is sinful, but that shameful “tools” are used for conception.
Why shameful? Adam explained, “I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself” (Gen 3:10). Why would Adam cover his nakedness? Because he felt guilty because God had said to multiply, and it seemed that he had coitus for pleasure (Gen 3:6) “The tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise.” It can be supposed that both Adam’s and Eve’s flesh was pleasant to their own eyes and to each the other. What did they do next? “And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons” (Gen 3:7).
They had never experienced guilt before because all was “good.” They experienced some type of evil. We know that reproduction was not evil because it was ordained by God. If they had merely ate figs, they surely would have covered their eyes, or perhaps their mouths. However, the guilty pair worked hard to make aprons of fig leaves to cover their shame. “Aprons” you may notice, was the work of their own hands. They still didn’t get it.
They had not the power nor the authority to cover their own sins because they were not really gods! They were merely play-acting, knowing that the work of their hands was deficient. Can you imagine: “Look what we did, God. We didn’t need you; we covered our own shame!” God was patient with his creatures and had grace on their misuse of their new knowledge. God responded with coats made from an animal – presumably a lamb – and the material was living and innocent. Hence, God used the blood and lives of lambs and The Lamb thenceforth to cover the sins of mankind!
Have you asked why an apple tree? There is no evidence of that. There was, however, evidence that the Tree of Knowledge was a fig tree. Surely, they were under a fig tree when the two procured fig leaves for their aprons! Sacred literature reveals that God provided the two a fig as large as a watermelon, but they did not eat for they still feared repercussions. (Books of Adam and Eve). A fig tree is a safe assumption, and Jesus often used fig trees in his comparisons.
There must be much more evidence that sexual pleasure was part of the new knowledge. Perhaps Nahum the prophet understood:
Thy strong holds
shall be like fig trees with the firstripe figs: if they be shaken, they shall
even fall into the mouth of the eater. (Nah 3:12)
Nahum was referring to the sinful city of Nineveh’s “strong holds.” Wikipedia indicates, “The city was later said to be devoted to "the goddess Ishtar of Nineveh" and Nina was one of the Sumerian and Assyrian names of that goddess.” It is proposed that to be Nimrod’s city which he built.
Since there was no death in the Garden of Eden, the figs which Adam and Eve ate were the first-ripe ones. Was Nahum comparing Nineveh’s sin to Adam’s? Perhaps. Do you suppose that the Serpent did not hand the fig to Eve, and perhaps Eve shook the Tree – worked for the fruit - compared to God providing the fruits of other trees? Did Eve work for the figs before they worked for the aprons? It seems so. Working for their existence never worked using God’s precepts!
A “stronghold” is the primary sin which is difficult to subdue. We see from the key verses below what Nineveh’s stronghold was:
KEY VERSES: Because
of the multitude of the whoredoms of the well-favoured harlot, the mistress of
witchcrafts, that selleth nations through her whoredoms, and families through
her witchcrafts. Behold, I am against thee, saith the Lord of hosts; and I will
discover thy skirts upon thy face, and I will shew the nations thy nakedness,
and the kingdoms thy shame. (Nah 3:4-5)
The Lord pointed out the primary problem of his creatures using Nineveh as the example: our whoredoms. Of course, “whoredoms” in that context are fornications with other gods, but the Lord mentioned specifically the problem at hand: (1) skirts up, and (2) nakedness – that is their shame, the world’s, and surely Adam’s and Eve’s “aprons” were their own “skirts.”
Who would be foolish enough to deny that most people’s sins are primarily sexual in nature? Adam’s and Eve’s sins were the same as ours; “the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life” (1 John 2:16). The lusts are obvious; they are sexual in nature, but what about “the pride of life?” I always considered that as being prideful of what we DO! Could it be that “the pride of life” is pride of the work of the genitalia? Could it be that most don’t see God as the Creator, but that humankind re-creates themselves from both a physical and spiritual standpoint?
What do men seem to have the most pride in? Their phallus and its prowess. What do women? Their provocativeness and feminine attributes. The meek do not have pride in those things. They credit God for their existence and continued existence in the hereafter. They know that God provides life and that men only provide the sperm and the woman the eggs. It is God that breathes life into those two elementary particles.
Why do some deny that God created? Because they want to believe that creation is from their own loins. Why do people favor abortion? Because their “gods” and “goddesses” are their own flesh and its desires.
Adam and Eve did not plan a child, and suffered the consequence – a life was lost for the first time - an innocent one. What is the consequence of unlimited and uncontrolled sexual freedom? Other innocent lives are lost as a consequence of men’s and women’s lust for sexual freedom.
Women’s mons pubis remains to this day their goddesses, and ironically their goddesses are themselves just as with Eve. That’s always been the case! Likewise, men’s phalluses have always been their gods. Freudian psychology supports that thesis. The phalluses and the mons Venuses were “the high places” which God wanted torn down in ancient times.
Why do the majority of the people in America have abortion as their ultimate issue? Because they desire the independence to govern their own bodies. That sounds libertarian and fair, but is it? “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own” (1 Cor 6:19)? Women defy God by desiring sexual independence. Eve apparently defied God for the same reason. Men defy God by propagating sexual independence. Adam did that as well when he ate. Indeed, as the wise man said, “There is nothing new under the sun.”
Original sin was when the forbidden fruit was tasted, and Adam and Eve thought they had gained their independence from God. They thought that they had emancipated themselves from God’s authority, but actually, they merely gained a second master. Satan became their god and their father. Satan in his cunning way, masqueraded as a mere serpent. Throughout history in all societies, Satan continues with one charade after another. He doesn’t morph at all; sinful men just disguise Satan with different attributes. They made the Serpent their god, thinking it was themselves, they made Ishtar a goddess but in reality “she” is the androgynous hermaphroditic image of Satan!
Satan is Satan without regard to gender, culture, or age. Satan entered Judas Iscariot, and gave the impression to Muslims that it was he who died for the sins of mankind. Islam created Isa from Judas, and in the end, they will revive the Beast who will claim to be Jesus.
Until then, Venus remains the goddess of the left since abortion is the paramount desire for evil people. Not to be outdone, the male phallus remains the “god” of most men. It scares me that if my appendage offends god that I should cut it off!
Wherefore if thy
hand or thy foot (or lips, eyes, or genitalia) offend thee, cut them
off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or
maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting
fire. (Mat 18:8).
God was speaking to a general audience but any discerning person should understand that it means “whatever.” What is it that we have which offends God so much? Our pre-occupation with sex and things that provide pleasure. When does lust cease? Either when it is under God’s control or you die, whichever comes first. We must become meek and let God control our thoughts, desires, and lusts.
