Navel of the World

Use your imagination: Isaiah saw into the future. He didn't have words to describe what he was seeing and even if he did, they would have meant nothing to the hearers! Israel is extremely important to God. It is layer after layer of civilization. Many times Israel, especially Jerusalem, has laid in heaps after destruction by their enemies. However, Jerusalem will never be destroyed. God will preserve it for it has a future use. Now examine some obscure but important Scripture; Isaiah's trip to the future Jerusalem:
For thus hath the Lord spoken unto me, Like as the lion and the young lion roaring on his prey, when a multitude of shepherds is called forth against him, he will not be afraid of their voice, nor abase himself for the noise of them: so shall the Lord of hosts come down to fight for mount Zion, and for the hill thereof. As birds flying, so will the Lord of hosts defend Jerusalem; defending also he will deliver it; and passing over he will preserve it. Turn ye unto him from whom the children of Israel have deeply revolted. (Isa 31:4-6)
Jerusalem will be attacked by ground and maybe air. This is not a battle of antiquity but one in the future. It may be that the "roaring lions" are army tanks and military trucks. The "birds flying" of course may be helicopters, air planes, and missiles. However, "the Lord of Hosts" - Tzevaot, will fly over with His angels. Tzevaot is the Leader of the armies of God. Since He can be seen, this Leader is Jesus Christ.
This may be the battle described in Revelation chapter 9.  It is a battle led by Abbadon who is most likely the Antichrist. (Some identify Abbadon as Satan, but he is a coward and never fights his own battles.) This is not about the enemy though, but the Friend! That will be a battle to punish those who have and will continue to defy God. Those who repent shall be preserved. Isaiah saw the battle which John saw in God's Revelation to him. Isaiah's visions were God's revelation to him!
Zion is an oronym - a description of a mountain, and specifically Zions are specific mountains in Jerusalem. There are many "Zions" in the city of Jerusalem - Mt. Moriah, Mount of Olives, etc. so Zion has come to mean Jerusalem.
Zionists are those who attempt to restore the entire Kingdom of David. Mount Zion is the axis mundi, or navel of the world in Judaism. Other areas of the world claim the same for themselves. However, "Mediterranean" means "middle of the earth". Thus, Jerusalem is the most befitting of axis mundi. Many configurations of the "firmament" (Gen 1:6) which geologists have named Pangea have been drawn. Pangea is the earth before the continental drift which likely occurred in the aftermath of the flood of Noah's time (Gen 10:25).
The continents in those representations rotated and expanded around the Mediterranean Sea.

Even more importantly is that Zion is the religious navel of the world. The navel represents life. It is believed to be the place where Adam was created, and the very location of the foundation stone which lies beneath the Dome of the Rock. Furthermore, Zion is the access point to Heaven as Bethany is where Jesus ascended. The abyss below  the foundation stone was the source of the water of Noah's flood, and the entryway to Hell.
All civilizations and empires considered Zion as the most desirable city of them all. Mankind seems to have an affinity for Jerusalem. People from all over the world, when they die, are taken to Zion to be buried at the Mount of Olives Cemetery to be near the portal to Heaven when the rapture comes! Right now, I have a strong spiritual pull to see where I will ascend to Heaven as the trumpet of God sounds. Zion is the place of my own spiritual birth!
We were created in the image of God. Jesus was loved before the foundation of the world (John 17:27). It stands to reason that God loved us as well before the foundation of the world. I believe that the container for our souls pre-existed the creation. I am speaking of the human soul. It is not made of matter but it is an emptiness which longs for filling. At the time of regeneration, God fills it back to the original Designers Intent - a re-genesis - back as Adam's before the fall of mankind.
Levi "paid tithes" to Melchizedek (Jesus) before he was ever conceived (Heb 7:10). Levi pre-existed his conception. We did too, not in body but soul. Souls are immortal. They always did exist and always will! As such, God draws me toward "home" as he did Abraham. "Home" for everyone is Zion. Soon I will visit the pathway to my room in God's mansion; I shall go to the navel of the world before my death when I visit the Holy Land, and return there after my death when God's time comes.
God will preserve Zion.(Isa 31:5). Nothing in the heavens will destroy Jerusalem. It is the "foundation of peace", and there will be peace there when the time comes. New Jerusalem will also come "home" from it's present place in Heaven (Rev 21:2).
Zion is also the spiritual navel of the universe. It is the access point between the heaven and the earth (Gen 1:1) and between the material and spiritual worlds. I believe that the sea of glass on which God's throne resides is above the navel of the world (Rev 4:6). God's "footstool" is the foundation stone at the navel of the world (Isa 66:1). The Holy of Holies is where mankind sat kneeled at God's "footstool" (1 Chron 28:2) on the top of the Ark between the cherubim symbolic of those angels which guard re-entry to Paradise (Gen 329; Exod 25:18-19)!
God will preserve Zion! I am a Zionist because I believe that! I am so trusting that God will preserve Jerusalem with its portal to Heaven that I stake my eternal life on that. Preservation is by Jesus's Name and he and his angels will guard and protect that great city - the City of David and the City of God! Isaiah saw Jesus (Yehoshua) whose Name means "Yahweh is salvation" or "God the Preserver". I can see Him too!

Spiritual But Not Religious

I am astounded at the number of people who say, "I am spiritual but not religious." What in the world does that mean? First off, the spiritual is not of this world! If someone is "spiritual", it implies a relationship with the supernatural, and yes indeed, Jesus is supra-natural.
"Religious" means devotion to a divine authority. The Christian religion is devotion to God Yahweh who is called Jesus.
"Spiritual but not religious" means that the person speaking is in relation to the supernatural, but not devoted to a divine authority. If the authority is not divine, then with what supernatural entity is the person communing? Scripture offers the answer:
And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. (2 Cor 11:14-15)
If that "spiritual" influence is not Christ, who is it? They are Satan's servants (aka dark angels, unclean spirits or demons.)  The best example of Satan's servants follows:
For he (Jesus) said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit. And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many. And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country. Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding. And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them. And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea. (Mark 5:8-13)
The man of Gaderines  was spiritual but not religious.  He believed in Jesus (Mark 5:6) but was not dedicated to him. He even worshiped Jesus but legions of unclean spirits occupied him. He was very spiritual - filled with a multitude of spiritual demons.
It should be obvious to anyone with any intelligence at all, that being familiar with spirits is dangerous! Scripture indicates just how dangerous:
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. (Ephes 6:12)
Foolish people scoff at that; they mock and have contempt for Christ, Scripture, and believers. People hate us Christians because they can't understand what they cannot see. My beliefs are not my own; they are God's. Never blame me, blame what I accept as truth. That statement itself is truth:
That there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. (2 Pet 3:3-4)
Scoffers' lusts are what they know. Their knowledge is limited to the natural, and they have no knowledge of what they cannot see nor understand. The supernatural cannot be proven by scientific methods because science is biased toward the natural. They have no tests for the supernatural because they don't believe it exists.
At one time atoms could not be seen nor detected. Did that make them fantasy? Atoms were real whether science knew of them or not. DNA went undetected up until the last century. Did that make DNA non-existent. Intelligent people should get my point. Scoffers are limited by their biasness; they are blind to what they cannot see!
Because scoffers don't believe in demons does not make demons less real. It does, though, make scoffers foolish. Scoffers are confined in a natural prison where the supernatural seems to not exist, and their lack of understanding makes them fail to seek truth. Satan has disguised himself as an angel of light but his existence is darkness. Those who scoff and choose darkness may as well choose death!

The First Last Supper

Yesterday I wrote on the idea behind the Abrahamic Covenant; it was more than the ancient land at stake but Heaven itself! I presented the first "celebration of life" with Abraham in the company of Melchizedeck. There was much more significance in that meeting. Let's review it again:
And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God. And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth: And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all. (Gen 14:18-20)
In yesterday's commentary, from Hebrews chapter seven, we learned that Melchizedek was obviously pre-incarnate Jesus. The very name means :King of Righteousness". He surely appeared in a glorified body because Paul said that He was without beginning nor end (Heb 7:3). It can be assumed that Melchizedek probably looked like Jesus when he went to the Father at the ascension. Not only did Abraham pay tithes to Melchizedek but so did Levi - the son of Israel (Jacob) who was first in the Levitical priesthood (Heb 7:9-10).
"Potential" Levi paid the tithe to Melchizedek as he was in the loins of Abraham, Levi's great-grandfather. Jesus was a priest on the order of Melchizedek (Heb 7:17; Psalm 110:4). What type of priest was that? A Priest that one could sup with and tithe too. Paul said that was the type of priest Jesus was. In fact, Jesus was (is) that Priest!  It is to be noted that Levitical priests must appeal to Jesus since Jesus is the sole Mediator. When they faced God in the Holy of Holies, it was Jesus to whom they appealed.
     Examine the Last Supper:
For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, that the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, this cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. 1 Cor 11:23-25)
The "bread" and "wine" represented Jesus's body and blood - the material substances of Jesus who would die on the cross.  (Note that Jesus's mind and spirit never died. He "gave up the ghost"). If the letter to the Corinthians is compared to Abraham's encounter with Melchizedek, I would hope that the reader understands: Abraham and Melchizedek were celebrating the Last Supper. Abraham was eating and drinking Jesus's body and blood in remembrance of what would someday happen!  That type of Holy Communion is the method God uses for all His covenants. Abraham and the Apostles were both celebrating the Covenant of Grace!
At the conclusion of John's version of the Last Supper, Jesus said, "A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.  By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another" (John 13:34-35). Was that really a new commandment? Loving God was the First Commandment. It seems that Jesus threw in another commandment - to love one another. He really just pointed that out that it was his intention even with Abraham. Abraham's commandment in his deal was to be lawful. Abraham understood what that comprised! He must love!
Jesus pointed out that the Law - the Ten Commandments - were the Greatest Commandment:
Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. (Mat 22:36-40)
A close examination will reveal that Commandments 1-4 are God-centered - how to love God, and the last six are others-centered - how to love others. Jesus was merely making loving others more obvious. We needed him to do that!
The message of communing with Melchizedek is the same message as at the Last Supper. Thus, it is the first Last Supper - having the same significance years before Jesus was ever born! We are to take the bread and wine in remembrance of Jesus who appeared to Abraham as Melchizedek. And how did Abraham tithe? He gave of his profits, but he also over-tithed love to God and others.

Importance of Jerusalem

The fighting for Israel and Jerusalem is much more than cultural, economical, or political. It is spiritual warfare. Wars of old have always been about whose God is stronger. Every empire which ever existed in the mid-east has had its eyes on Jerusalem. That small country, the size of New Jersey, has always been the prize desired by everyone. Why is that? If I suggested that they all fight over Heaven, would that make sense?
By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise. (Heb 11:8-9)
Paul, therein, referred to the "land grant" issued to the Hebrew people through his agent Abraham. The original grant and deed to the land came long ago.
Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. (Gen 12:1-3)

In the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates (Gen 15:18)
And God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations. This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised. And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant.(Gen 17:9-10, 14)
That land grant is called the Abrahamic Covenant. Most Baptists and Calvinists preach that God's gift to the Jews was out of love and was unconditional.  The gift was what we call "the Promise Land". The condition for the giving was that every male child be circumcised as a seal that they are pledged to keep the covenant. It is not described what the grantee would need to do other than circumcision. However, if chapter twelve verse 3 implies, "all the families of the earth be blessed".
Let's look at the ceremony celebrating the promise, the treaty with God, if you prefer:

For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him; To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace; Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually. (Heb 7:1).
Paul spoke of the meeting of Abraham with Melchisedec back in Genesis chapter 14. Abraham had what we now call "communion" with the King of Salem to celebrate the promise. They took bread and wine which of course represents the body and blood of Jesus. There is so much that happened in the land grant and ceremony.
Let us first examine "Salem". It is Shalem in Hebrew and means "peace" (Etymology Online; "Salem"). Melchisedec was King of Peace. Later on, we see that when Jesus was born, it was declared "peace on earth" (Luke 2:14) and then his purpose changed to: "Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword." (Mat 10:34).
That is what I shall call "God's Paradox of Peace". I believe it means that Jesus is King of Peace, but on this earth the King will cause variance (dissension) between everyone (Mat 10:35). In other words, the King of Peace returned to earth when Jesus was born!
The King of Peace was a priest of the most high God. "Priest" is a mediator between mankind and God. Jesus is the only mediator who can do that: "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" (1 Tim 2:5).
Abraham's encounter with Melchisedec  should already be clear. He was signing the deal with Jesus himself! Jesus is not just God the Man who was born in the flesh; since no one can look at God and live, but God manifested Himself in different ways. He often appeared as a Man. Jesus himself was God appearing to mankind in the flesh. Melchisedec was as much Jesus as Jesus was (John 1-3, 14).
Melchisedec blessed Abraham. He consecrated Abraham just as Jesus did with Christians with the beatitudes (Mat 5). Jesus was saying to early Christians what he promised to Abraham: Just look at them!
Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (v. 3)
Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. (v. 4)
Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. (v. 5)
Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. (v. 6)
Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. (v. 7)
Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. (v. 8)
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. (v. 9)
Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (v. 10)
Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. (v. 11)
Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. (v. 12)
The beatitudes are the individual blessings which Melchisedec gave to Abraham and the Hebrew nation. Note that the covenant was for "all families of the earth" (Gen 12:3), not just the Jewish people. Look what Jesus promised: citizenship in Heaven, comfort, the earth itself, contentment, mercy, to see God, be adopted by God, find peace, and be joyful. Specifically, "the meek shall inherit the earth." I contend that is what Melchisedec was offering, but not just to the Jewish people but to all mankind!
The Hebrews were not people with any depth. Abraham knew of what Melchisedec was speaking. It was the land shown below on the map:

The Promised Land

Mel granted to mankind David's Kingdom. The kingdom God promised was divided as the kings broke the covenant. Circumcision was not efficacious. They broke their promise regardless of their seal. (Without explanation for now, let me point out that circumcision is a picture of baptism and circumcision of the heart. I have written on that several times.)
The Jews couldn't keep the kingdom; they sinned to greatly. Their greatest sin was blasphemy against the Holy Ghost - the Holy Spirit who experienced death on the cross with Jesus (Mark 15:37).  By denying Melchisedec, the Jews were denying Jesus! We thought they did that at the time of Paul, but it was long before! People still want that land back because it belongs to God, and He can give it to anyone who trusts Him! Those who don't believe in God are not joint heirs to that "land", but only those who trust in Melchisedec - Jesus the Christ (Rom 7:18)
Before we move on to the significance of the Promised Land, lets validate further that Melchisedec is God manifested - called Jesus: "Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually." Melchisedec was the alpha and omega, the beginning and the end. That is the description of God Himself (Rev 1:8).  Melchisedec is the priest forever - the Mediator Jesus Christ!
I hope that you are convinced that Abraham made his promise to Jesus who in turn provided the hope of contentment and joy! We think of the land, but the Promise was much more than land; it was the blessings Jesus made in the beatitudes! It was Heaven on earth.
Now back to Abraham: His heirs, all of them, were to "sojourned in the land of promise". The contingency was that they trust God and love Him, sealed by circumcision. It was an everlasting covenant, and Abraham met the obligation to trust God by his willingness to sacrifice his only remaining son. That willingness was accounted to Abraham as faith. (Rom 4:12) where it indicated that Abraham's faith preceded Melchisedec's gift. Therefore, Abraham did nothing more than show blind faith in whom he could not see. Soon afterward, he saw God face to face and was blessed! Faith allows the Christian to "see" God. I "see" Him in the Word!
Abraham and his heirs would sojourn in the land of promise. "Sojourn" was to be a temporary stay but the covenant was everlasting. People misinterpret the promise: God was promising Abraham eternal life in Paradise.
Mankind, by entering the Promised Land were returning to the Garden eastward in Eden as Genesis indicated. Look where Jerusalem is: eastward in the Kingdom of God - the world! Jerusalem means "foundation of peace". It's where the King Of Peace resided and his Voice resonated in the midst of the Garden. Jerusalem is the foundation of the world. Mankind had came home. Abraham went there by blind faith, "not knowing whither he went." He was going to Heaven without realizing it.
His body lies nearby in the Cave of Machpelah. At the rapture, Melchisedec's promise will finally be fulfilled. The Promised Land will be his home, he will see Melchisedec face to face, and will walk in the Garden of God - near the Jordan - the river of the Garden.
Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name. (Rev 3:12)
And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. (Rev 21:2).
Heaven will come down. Paradise will have a re-genesis on it's original foundation. The City of God - New Jerusalem - will be on it's origin foundation stone - (The foundation stone under the New Temple where the Dome of the Rock now covers it.) Abraham will finally be there again with Melchisedec when he again reigns as King of Peace. The Abrahamic Covenant is all about Jesus, and the restoration of the world - Heaven on earth. And everyone thinks it's all about the land!

To Die Is Gain

Money grows with time. It does so by compounded interest. The wages of the lender is paid by he borrower. Indeed, "usury" is making a profit off the misfortune of others. For instance, when one borrows money for a new home, let's say for twenty years, they may pay as much for borrowing as for the home.
Five-percent sounds like little cost until it's compounded. One-hundred thousand sounds affordable but the real cost must include the cost of using money. That cost is $65,000. You may well have afforded $100,000 with the simple interest of $5,000 but interest repetitive over time makes the borrower a servant to his desires, and a slave to the lender.
The compounding of money over time is analogous to the wages of sin. One sin seems so simple and harmless. Surely, God will afford us one sin! One sin isn't the problem: but the practice of sin. Let's take a look at a few examples:
Therefore the Lord said to Solomon, “Since this has been your practice and you have not kept my covenant and my statutes that I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom from you and will give it to your servant. (1 Kings 11:11 ESV).
Sin is the disregard for the Law of God. Sure, God is gracious; He will turn a blind eye to one sin because He understands our flesh. Solomon's problem was with its practice. Of course, practice is when sin becomes a lifestyle, and with time, sinners become more conflagrant sinners because with practice it comes easier! Solomon's wages were only to lose his earthly kingdom. God knew that he would quit practicing sin, and save his membership in the Kingdom which counts - the Kingdom of God.
It is not one sin which makes a man without a kingdom, but the practice of sin. Isaiah warned of practicing sin:
Woe to the rebellious children, saith the Lord, that take counsel, but not of me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin. (Isa 30:1)
Sin is additive - one sin leads to another. That's for two sins. The "simple" result is that one sin leads to another one. With only one repetition, it is still not a practice but the "wage" or payment for sin is losing one's spirit with God. Even for Christians - God's "rebellious children" repetitive sin takes one out of communion. Does God go away? No, but he becomes silent since he will never leave nor forsake His children (Deut 31:6).
Everyone is born in iniquity (Psalm 51:5). All have sinned and deserve death (Rom 3:23). However, God is concerned with His "children": James, speaking with his "brethren" in Christ warns:
Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. (Jas 1:15)
Calvinists don't appreciate the inspired words of James. He warned Christians that sin can kill them. What is spiritual death? It is not having eternal life (Rom 6:23). James is referring to the practice of sin. How many sins will God endure? We don't know but rest assured when "interest" in God's gift is expired, a Christian may lose his or her reward which is eternal life!
Faith is God's gift (Ephes 2:8). God is not into usury. His gift is free and expects no principle nor charges interest. If He did, we would never be able to afford it! Any minute interest which He could have charged, compounded over eternity is infinite. However, eternal life, unlike living in a fancy home, will not make you a slave to anyone.
God does want you to serve Him. Service to Him is simple interest: practice loving Him and your fellow citizens! To be honest, the latter is hard work, but is obtainable because God helps you to love others, if Christians show an interest.
Showing no interest in God our your fellow man, indicates an interest in the law of sin:
Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. (John 8:34)
There is a reward for practicing righteousness which is eternal life. Practicing righteousness compounds itself as well. With loving God, love comes easier to the point that we can love our neighbors with ease. It is to come with such ease that we can even love our enemies; we can't do that alone but practicing our faith makes all things possible (Matt 19:26)! With that said, sin makes eternal life impossible. Jesus was speaking (John 8:34) to his disciples - his followers. If they continued in his word, the truth would make them free (John 8:31-32). Free of what? The wages of sin which is death (Rom 6:23).
Satan is a usurer. God hates that (Exod 22:15). Satan compounds your sin. Ironically, the more people sin the less they enjoy sin. In order to have increasingly more pleasure or to retain what one gets, one sin leads to more sin and more intense sin. (Yes, there are degrees of sin. I have written on that before.)
Sinners must intensify their sins to intensify their pleasure. Sin compounds itself; that "innocent, harmless, little" sin compounds into living for sin and in sin. When that time comes, sin compounds itself. What will you owe Satan when it's all over? The practice of sin compounded for a lifetime, and well you owe Satan your life. In a Faustian manner you have traded your soul for pleasure. What's more, all the while you may think not!
If we pretend we are Christians, maybe God won't know the difference! God's not stupid. He already thought of that. Faith is a gift but it must be maintained! We show interest to God, and he removes interest from the silly Prince of the Air - the Devil. His "bank' has ample love for the world, and to borrow from it is free!
All God demands is that we trust His bank whose "President" is Him. When the gift is given, if the recipient has not trusted in the benefactor, and has no fidelity to the "Bank", then they may become spiritually insolvent. Like the prodigal son who spent his inheritance frivolously, Christians, those young sons of God, may do the same. To inherit the Kingdom of God requires fidelity to the King! Faith compounded daily comes to add up to a very significant inheritance: "the meek will inherit the earth" (Psalm 37:11) - a new world, all clean and spiffy!
Now for my own purpose: the argument is gateway drugs. The implication is that a lesser drug leads to a greater drug with intensified pleasure and/or more often used. For my own case, for instance, cigarette-smoking which seems a benign sin, allowed me to sin more often. I had already shown my weakness for the drug, and the longer I smoked the more I smoked. That one sin compounded itself with time. Because I sinned once and became accustomed to pleasure, I sought more pleasure. Smoking did not satisfy that longing, so I did other sins and more magnificent sins. I lusted after the things of the flesh.
I began to do many things which a Christian should not do. Believe it or not, my cigarette-smoking was an enabler. I thought, I have already sinned in this manner so I may as well sin in other matters. Cigarettes were a gateway sin in two manners: (1) I practiced smoking more often and got better with practice, and (2) I began to practice more types of sin. As scripture says, sin leads to sin.
Sin is compounded in all types, and there is even cross-breeding of sin. I have done all manner of sins, and while I smoked, I thought, why bother? I quit trying not to sin! I had loaned Satan me for my pleasure. He wanted to keep me in sin by compounding more pleasure, then one day, I had enough of slavery to him and the law of sin.
When I quit smoking it became easier to quit sinning in all areas. "Blessedness" is righteousness compounding itself and the compounding of that is the journey to sanctification - setting oneself apart from iniquity -  or freedom from the wages of sin as sin diminishes. The desire for pleasure will never be eliminated, but it will be diminished to the point that Christians are no longer servants to sin!
On the issue of marijuana:  It is a drug and is sinful. The use of it will indeed be compounded. I have seen slaves to marijuana do no more than lie is a state of euphoria on their sofas and be of no use to anyone, even themselves. One couple who practiced sinning with marijuana told me that they never were even interested in their children, let alone God. Neither were they sober and vigilant, and the lion could have devoured them easily (1 Pet 5:8) because that's how Satan enslaves.
Without regard to any so-called "scientific" study, the young people in the drug rehab all testified that marijuana led them in the pursuit of harder drugs. That's the way any sin is compounded. Thus, marijuana is a gateway drug and a gateway sin. The practice of anything is at first a sin then a ritual. I practice my daily Bible study everyday because I am addicted to the pursuit of truth. If my day passes without learning more about God, I am uncomfortable. My addiction is that I must know the truth! Having that addiction protects me from sinful addictions. I still want to sin, but if I am practicing God's will, I am less prone to sin. (God blocks the gateway to sin.)
Likewise, practicing sin becomes addiction to sin. I am not a pharmacist so I cannot say that marijuana is a classical narcotic. I can say, though, that it provides an emotional addiction, and a spiritually wrong addiction as well. Saying that is not addictive and dangerous is a gamble - a user can lose both their life and afterlife.
Sinners think of death as ceasing to exist. Slavery to marijuana is ceasing to exist both emotionally and spiritually. I saw a young man whose life was dedicated to Maryjane, and who had not interest in the opposite sex. That fifteen-year old boy was a slave to marijuana, and with time, is still emotionally fifteen-years old. He handles his issues, not rationally, but under the guidance of marijuana - that is to say without sobriety and with little vigilance. He continually opens himself to the devouring lion, and much of the time his life is chaotic.
I have spoken of the great "wages" which sinners pay for their pleasures. How about the usurer? The malefactor of your pleasure is the Devil. He gains from your weaknesses. What has he to gain? Your soul. You do indeed trade off your souls for pleasure. When that is done, God is undermined and the Serpent still alive in his tree or on his pole (Num 21:8-9).
The Serpents M.O. is deception. Like the tobacco pushers years ago who claimed that cigarettes were healthy and cool, the marijuana lobby has the exact same M.O. There indeed is nothing new under the sun, and Satan still uses the same old lies. Worse yet; people still believe the same old lies! How gullible sinners are! Not only will marijuana gradually kill you but you may be devoured by the powers of whom you ignore.
Interest in God compounds as well. As your benefactor, your inheritance is increased until the maximum is attained for His servant:
According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death. For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. (Phil 1:20-21)
Maintaining Christ as your "banker" is your gain. Death is when "gain" is obtained. It is eternal life. That is in which I am most interested; all other things are secondary!

Everything before: Anything But

Christ should come first. No, let me change that: Christ MUST come first. The only MUSTS in the Bible are associated with regeneration - being born again. That's what salvation is all about: putting God before anything else, especially yourself. Christians, however, seem to be satisfied with tithing their time, but God gets the last ten percent, not the first, if even that!
People always do what they want to do. Most of the time, they want to put themselves first. Some Christians want to do anything but what God wants them to do. This morning I skipped church for the first time in ages. I did what I wanted to do. However, I still do what God wants me to do. Many Christians will do anything but God's will. Some put everything before God. By doing that, there is a declaration made: I come first; I come before God. That's risky, to say the least!
Wanting to do God's will is the expectation that God has for us - His adopted children. On the other hand, we tend to do what the Devil wants us to do; you know that invisible creature whose desire is to steal God's thunder. We tend to do the Devil's will instead of what God wants us to do.
God wants sincere Christians. Satan wants push-overs. You can say you're safe all you want but you put yourself in jeopardy when God has no place in your schedule. As I hiked this day, I thought on that. Am I a sincere Christian? How sincere need we be? Certainly putting everything and anything before God is not sincerity. Some will do anything but God's will.
Yoga is again on my mind. I've been studying other religions. Yoga has tainted Christianity; some say that they only do the positions part. I've spoken on that before. That is taking a knee to another god. My hiking on Sunday worried me. Was I walking for God or for me? We all know the answer. Again, I came up short!
Yoga is so widespread in the Christian community that it should worry sincere Christians. I should not worry about you but you should! I'm busy keeping myself reverent.
Yoga means "to yoke". That worries me? Who to yoke with whom? I studied that: it is the yogi yoking with the Vedic gods: Brahma for one. Christian yogis yoke with another un-Christian god. What is wrong with that? It is having another god in God's face - a violation of the First Commandment. It comes first for a reason: it is imperative! It's the most fundamental of the Laws. Of course, Christians rationalize that as Old Testament regulation and is no longer important! Well, look at this:
Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? (2 Cor 6:14).
Paul is a New Testament apostle. The "unequal yoke" of which he wrote is Christians with non-Christians, and light with darkness.  It is almost as if Paul is saying, don't do yoga - do not be yoked.
On the other hand, we can be yoked!
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. (Mat 11:28-30).
How are we to yoke with Jesus? Depend on Jesus - trust him! Isn't that so much easier than working hard to yoke with a false God. Oriental religions are all works oriented. Nirvana can only be achieved by doing things! Nirvana is the final yoke with Buddha's god since Buddha is not even a god nor claimed to be.  One of the things people do to yoke with their false god is yoga. What's so hard about believing what they say themselves and comparing it with what God says?
Now you can attack me: I should have been in church today praising God. I could say, "But I did that while hiking." True, I thought about God but did little praising; none that I am aware. Thus, I am guilty and stand corrected. Now if you are a yogi, can that be justified? I judged me... you judge yourself. I have just given some verses in order to judge fairly. It's up to you to be your own judge but God has wisely given us metrics in order to judge ourselves. They are written on stone tablets for a reason: to last for perpetuity.

Hell Is for Real

Hell is a real and important place. Many rattle off, "I'm saved." Hell is the place from which Christians are saved. Without Hell there is no salvation. Without Hell, there is no need for Heaven because it is the place of refuge from Hell.
People must get out of mind that Heaven is just a spiritual place, for it is not. Heaven is for real both physically and spiritually. It's 3-D materiel was the Garden of Eden, and its unseen dimension is called Heaven. Jesus himself was of the same substance: flesh and spirit. Likewise, Heaven is as well! Within the words of Scripture is much symbolism. The books of Matthew, Mark, and Luke are synoptic: three different sets of eyes who saw Jesus from different angles. Those gospels are Jesus in 3-D.
On the other hand, although John was the author, within that books pages, many sets of eyes looked at Jesus. John writes the words of many. John was the "beloved" for a reason; he knew the spiritual Jesus fully. John described Jesus before he was even born (John 1). Think of the Book of John as Jesus in  a spiritual dimension. Thus, John's viewpoint is Jesus in a fourth dimension, one we don't fully understand. Believing in Jesus, the Son of Man, is tangible. Believing in Jesus, the Son of God, is called "faith".
We believe that Jesus is in Heaven because his body ascended there. What remains of Jesus on earth? His Holy Ghost - Pneuma. Likewise, the Garden of Eden, called Paradise, was on earth. Now it is the home of Jesus who is in Heaven. Like Jesus, the "ghost" - or pneuma - of Paradise is what remains of earth. "Jerusalem" means foundation of peace. The foundation stone of the world is on a precipice in Jerusalem. Thereon lies the foundation of the world with its beautiful Garden. Adam's dust, Jews believe, was gathered there for his creation. All that remains of the Garden are the walls of the City of David and the stone. The City of God is no longer there, but in Heaven where only those with special eyes can see it. I have special eyes because I am a "peculiar person":
But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light. (1 Pet 2:9)
Peculiar people are those who are born again. Regenerated people have re-generated vision. We can see what Adam and Eve saw in the beginning. God's throne sits on a transparent sea of glass (Rev 15:2). John the Beloved saw through that sea of glass. He saw God on His throne in the Person of Jesus.
Faith allows one to see that vision because new creatures have new bright eyes that can see the unseen. That is faith! The divine essence emanating from the foundation of the world - Jerusalem - is hope! Because there is a foundation, I know that there is still a City of God!
That Great City will return, someday, to its foundation. (Rev 12:10). Where is that "Great City" now? It is New Babylon - the harlot Babylon (Rev 8:21). That same "Great City" will be cast down into Hell to be replaced with a purified and real New Jerusalem. Worldly Jerusalem is the harlot Babylon. Like the prostitute in the Bible, Jerusalem is symbolic of her or visa versa. She fornicated with the world, and so did Jerusalem, and still does! Jesus told the woman to go and sin no more. (John 8:11). That story is in scripture probably for various reasons, but I believe that story is a "picture" of the harlot Babylon becoming cleansed - New Jerusalem!
For those with faith, God has given us a gift of spiritual vision. We can see through the fog, and see Heaven clearly. I don't hope Heaven is for real. The regenerated creatures can see the prize which must be attained!
As hope is the spiritual existence of Paradise, Hell is the dismal existence of the lost. Where is Hell? Its foundation is as real as Jerusalem. The foundation stone is the hope of mankind. Tophet is the place of regret. Isaiah spoke of Heaven and Hell. Let us look at the real place - Tophet.
Woe to the rebellious children, saith the Lord, that take counsel, but not of me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin: That walk to go down into Egypt, and have not asked at my mouth; to strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, and to trust in the shadow of Egypt! Therefore shall the strength of Pharaoh be your shame, and the trust in the shadow of Egypt your confusion. This is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the Lord. For Tophet is ordained of old; yea, for the king it is prepared; he hath made it deep and large: the pile thereof is fire and much wood; the breath of the Lord, like a stream of brimstone, doth kindle it. (Isa 30:1-3,9, 33)
First off where and what is Tophet? It is a real place, as real as the foundation stone. It is Gehinnom - the valley of Hinnom - which is "a place of torture". That would seem that someone was tortured at that valley. They were:
And go forth unto the valley of the son of Hinnom, which is by the entry of the east gate, and proclaim there the words that I shall tell thee,  And say, Hear ye the word of the Lord, O kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem; Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, the which whosoever heareth, his ears shall tingle. Because they have forsaken me, and have estranged this place, and have burned incense in it unto other gods, whom neither they nor their fathers have known, nor the kings of Judah, and have filled this place with the blood of innocents; They have built also the high places of Baal, to burn their sons with fire for burnt offerings unto Baal, which I commanded not, nor spake it, neither came it into my mind: Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that this place shall no more be called Tophet, nor The valley of the son of Hinnom, but The valley of slaughter. (Jer 19:2-6)
The valley of Hinnom or Tophet is the physical existence or evidence of Hell, the very same a place of torment! The Jews believe that the Old City of David, specifically Bethel, is where Jesus ascended. Nearby is the foundation stone - the very place of Ornan's threshing floor. Ornan is another name for the priest Aaron. The stone represents the place of judgement, and the threshing judgment itself. Those who worshipped Baal in high places would be thrown down into the valley of Hinnom. Hell is for real!
At Tophet, parents sacrificed their own children into the belly of Molech. Molech is representative of Satan. I believe that Gehennom is the physical foundation of Hell, and the access to spiritual Hell is beneath the foundation stone. There is an abyss which has never been explored beneath that rock. Jews believe that is the route to spiritual Hell. Between the foundation stone and the abyss is the Holy of Holies - the place where God was met in "person". Only by God can anyone be saved, and His Name is Jesus (Mat 1:25).
Isaiah used Egypt with symbolism. Egypt was a foreshadowing of living in iniquity (sin), and Pharaoh was symbolic of the  Devil. For those who lived in Egypt and were not threshed out by the forty years of wandering in the wilderness, their destiny was Tophet - or Hell. Hell is and must be a real place. I can see it in Scripture. My hope is not to go there, and my real hope is to be rewarded with a real Heaven!
