Due to inherited sin from our forbears - original sin, mankind has since been born with clouded vision. Satan deceived Eve who became blind to truth. The truth was, "You will surely die!" Neither Adam nor Eve understood death. All that they had ever seen was alive! With their bright eyes, death could not be seen as there was no death in Paradise on earth nor in Heaven. She ate and nothing seemed to change. Adam saw that there was no change at all, and he too ate! Before their delicious meal, their eyes were bright and they could see into the heavens. Afterward, a cloud was drawn over their eyes and Heaven was concealed from their view! (Much later, God would tear down that curtain!) They could no longer see God, and if they had been able to, they would have died in a mortal sense.
What could save them from spiritual death? To see God manifested. Immediately after sinning, they were sorry. The first encounter they had was with the Voice walking in the Garden. To no avail, they covered their shame, but the Voice, seeing their shame covered it by taking one life and atoning for them. He killed a lamb and made clothing for his shamed creatures. They regained the hope of salvation. "Hope" is partial restoration of bright eyes, and with great hope, their comes bright eyes! The Voice promised reprieve in five-and-one-half "days", according to sacred writings. That was God "working" in six days after which he would rest. (We now live in the seventh day with bright eyes gain). On the sixth day (5500 hundred years), Adam would regain his bright eyes because his nature would be made bright again. That seems to be the resurrection of Jesus. Adam would see God's glory again and the cloud would be removed which was obstructing his vision.
Adam regained partial vision even as he was removed from the Garden. God's sacrifice provided some new sight - insight, or maybe discernment. After God provided a life to save Adam from death, he kept them safe from Satan. Adam and Eve and the Conflicts with Satan are about God's protecting Adam and Eve since without bright eyes, they were constantly in danger of perishing. That's what God does for Christians. He restores some of our vision so that we are safe. Our eyes are opened to truth and we are set free from deception!
Ephes 6:16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; 17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints.Faith shields us from the cloud placed over our eyes by Satan. That "shield" allows us to see the truth. Faith allows mankind to see the deception of Satan, his main "flaming dart". Rather than be vulnerable because of Satan's cunning, faith makes our eyes bright enough to know his will and that it is not God's!
With bright eyes, Christians see clearly. They can take perfect aim at the evil one when they thrust God's Sword at him. With the Sword they can see Satan for what he is, just as before they were deceived way back in the Garden. The Sword, which is the Word, provides a new nature again: bright with bright eyes. The old person who is blind to the will of Satan soon sees the truth and is set free from Satan's will. Truth restores bright vision because the new person has a bright nature just like Adam and Eve had before they sinned.
When Christians pray, it is to "keep alert". To always have our eyes on Jesus, the same "person" who restored hope back there in the Garden. Who then made God clearly seen again with his life, miracles, death, and resurrection. I see God clearly now! That was when I was enlightened or born-again! With that truth, my eyes were made bright again. I not only clearly see Satan but I see Jesus and know that I am seeing God. His Holy Ghost is always with me, protecting from the evil one and his flaming darts! Yes, I can see clearly now, thanks to Jesus showing me God Himself!
