The UN, an organization whose members largely dislike the US and Israel, but whose Ambassadors enjoy the perks of living here, says that war crimes may have been committed in the Gaza confrontation. Further, they say that the US should provide the Iron Dome anti-missile system to Gazans, as well as Israel. U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay said “No such protection has been provided to Gazans against the shelling.”
In their air conditioned offices, the UN thinks this is a game of “Battleship!”
UN headquarters is not being targeted by the 2,600 Hamas rockets that Hamas has fired into Israel (actually a few landed in Gaza causing civilian casualties). They don’t even realize that the Iron Dome isn’t a protection from “shelling.”
The UN also forgets the fact that the Arabs living in Gaza should be able to provide their own defense by forcing Hamas to stop digging tunnels and firing rockets into Israel. I doubt they have much influence over Hamas, whose leader, billionaire Khaled Meshaal, directs operations from his luxury residence in Qatar.
Israel does offer residents of Gaza a shield from shelling by using all means available to warn residents in advance of Israeli military actions. Israel has not blocked transfer of necessities into Gaza. Hamas certainly does not reciprocate.
Ceasefires have been called for by everyone from Egypt to the US to Israel, itself. Hamas has violated every one- even their own!
Although we do have gunfire from Mexico crossing our southern border, we aren’t being attacked with missiles. If that happened, I expect that most US citizens would support our government actively pursuing our common defense, just as Israeli citizens support Netanyahu and the Knesset.
That response would require leading from the front, however, so we might be in trouble!
